Volunteer Mentoring Opportunities

Please note that our next induction training for new volunteers will be displayed in the events section of our website.

Futures Unlocked offers volunteers the opportunity to work directly with someone recently released from prison.  Our volunteer mentors offer our clients practical and emotional support to help that person lead a crime-free life.

"The training was honestly the best teaching and preparation that I've ever experienced.  I found it so informative and it exceeded my expectations completely.  Never would have thought time would go so quickly and I have learnt an amazing amount." Susan

There are exciting opportunities for volunteer mentors to work with individuals who are preparing for release from prison into Warwickshire.  Our clients come from all walks of life and need someone like you to offer them support on release.  Some clients only need a little support others need more. With a range of volunteers we can make the right match to get the best results.

As a volunteer mentor you could begin working with an client inside prison and continue this through the gate and into the community, empowering them to access the support and provision they need to stay crime free and build a better future.

Examples of client support could include accompanying the client to access accommodation, welfare benefits, attend Probation appointments, offer support around family matters or help them to work towards education or employment.  You might just be someone sensible and reliable to talk to in those first few weeks.

What benefits are there for volunteers?

benefits for vols

We are looking for people who

  • Believe the client deserves a second chance and the opportunity to lead a new life
  • Are committed and reliable (many of our clients have been let down by those around them!)
  • Have time to give (around 2 hours a week is required)
  • Are motivated and keen to learn
  • Understand that working with ex-offenders can be challenging but also very rewarding.

We actively encourage applications from those who have previously been through the Criminal Justice system themselves.  In some cases this can provide a valuable insight and credible advice that are only found in others who have shared this experience.
