Mentoring - Skills & Attributes
Providing emotional, practical and spiritual (where relevant) through-the-gate support to individuals leaving prison and returning to Warwickshire, Coventry and Solihull.
In this role you will be responsible for:
Attending all compulsory training events (approx. quarterly)
Identifying targets for clients to work to
Supporting clients to achieve identified targets
Arranging and attending regular mentoring meetings with clients in the community
Attending appointments with client (where relevant)
Accompanying clients in the community to access support
Encouraging and motivating clients
Building client’s self confidence
Completing feedback forms within 24 hours of meeting
Undertaking other duties as agreed with the Community Chaplain for the effective delivery of mentoring.
Skills and Qualities Required for This Role:
Ideally available for at least 2 hours per week when client is in the community
Must be able to commit for a minimum of 6-9 months
Excellent communication skills
Trustworthy and reliable
Committed
Non-judgemental
Enthusiastic and optimistic
Caring & approachable
Realistic
Willing to work under guidance of volunteer co-ordinator
But, no previous experience of working with offenders necessary.
